A Celebration of Custom Framing

Quality custom framing, like quality furniture, will outlast the paint, wallpaper, the carpeting and window treatments in your home.

Quality custom framing will outlast all of the clothing, vehicles, technological systems and appliances you will ever own.

Quality custom framing possesses the unique ability to become an heirloom as it passes from generation to generation still looking as good as the day it was created.

Quality custom framing is an investment in the future.

The framing industry has undergone vast and amazing transformations since I began framing in 1969.  In those old days, paper matting, with a core of wood pulp, was available in a mind-boggling array of, wow, thirty or forty colors!  Glazing "options" were single strength window glass or ultra-frosty non glare.  Metal frames were yet to be perfected and wooden frames ranged from gold to silver, black to brown.  Maybe a little bit of green thrown in.

Well, we've come a long way, baby!

MATBOARD

State of the Art offers the complete line of Crescent 100% cotton rag mats with a Lifetime Guarantee and the complete line of Bainbridge ArtCare acid-free products with proprietary  Zeolite  technology.  These two manufacturers combined have literally hundreds and hundreds of surfaces, colors, textures and fabrics.  There are dozens of shades of white!

In the area of matting options, I can cut ovals or circles, even letters of the alphabet.  I have been creating Alphabet Mats since 1980, and I cut them by hand.  I can also leaf, paint or color bevels, draw accent lines on mats, or even stamp or paint mats to create your heart's desire.

GLAZING

We carry "regular" glass, UV glass, AR glass, Museum glass, convex glass, acrylic in regular and UV, even non glare in both glass and acrylic.  We also feature beveled and non-beveled mirrors.

MOUNTING

We feature ArtCare Acid free foam board, rag board, Gator foam and the Super Plak.  We can dry mount posters and we utilize preservation techniques to attach, float, sink mat or encapsulate your artwork.

FRAMING

State of the Art offers a choice of thousands of frames from metal manufacturers Nielsen, Clark, Decor and Designer;  wood frames from Larson Juhl,  AMPF, Decor, and more.  These frames come in all shapes and sizes and colors and textures and finishes.

Oval, round and spandrel frames are also available in a range of styles, and if this mind-boggling array is not enough for you to choose from - I can refinish or tone any frame to your specifications.

OBJECT FRAMING

Framing three dimensional objects is another of my favorite pastimes.  I have framed a huge array of objects ranging from a little girl's pony tail (plus before and after first haircut photos), rocks, bones, a piece of the Berlin Wall, a bird skeleton, a toy horse, fossils, reticules, Civil War uniform buttons, dried wedding bouquets, clay fetish animals, pottery shards - well, I think you get the idea.  These items can in most cases by attached with reversible techniques (OK, I admit, I had to glue the rocks!).

NEEDLEWORK

Over the years that I have been framing, I have framed all manner of needlework, ranging from huge Indian embroidered silk pieces to the miniscule counted cross stitch found in the Framaree Box.  Needlepoint, crewel, lace, crochet, you name it, I've framed it.  These fragile items are also held in place with stitching, stainless steel pins or inert nylon fasteners.  All needlework framing is completely reversible and I also highly recommend glazing for such pieces.  The air is too dirty nowadays to have "naked" needlework on your walls!
