Services & FAQ PHOTO RESTORATION Photo Restoration FAQ
Photographs can
be very fragile things - they come to us all crisp and shiny and beautiful but
over time become torn, faded, stuck to glass - after all, photographs are just
paper. Paper is ephemeral.
Photographs sometimes need people added (like that cousin from the Old Country) or subtracted - that ex daughter-in-law, for instance. Then there's that diaper bag in the family portrait or the light that looks like it's growing out of Grandpa's head. All of these problems and many more can be repaired or restored at State of the Art. My partner Kim Wilson, who died in February, shared her skills with me and with her husband Mike. Mike is the computer guy (this site's webmaster) and in their years together he taught her software skills and she taught him retouching and restoration skills. They spent many hours together working on photo projects. I also spent many hours observing her techniques in the pre-computer days, and together we pioneered many techniques of working directly upon original photographs. Mike and I are confident that we can address any and all photographic restoration needs that you may have. Mike is a professional CAD designer as well as an artist - his restoration work is on a par with Kim's in every respect. Kim's legacy will continue with Mike - including the Pet Art Portraits. Between the two of us, we can combine both traditional and digital techniques to restore the most tattered of old photos. Damaged photos have actually arrived here in pieces in a box, not unlike a jigsaw puzzle with pieces missing (an ear, an eye, the top of a head). If your family photos are faded and wrinkled, moldy or scribbled on by a two year old, we can breathe new life into them with our restoration skills. If you have a black and white photo that you would like to see in color, bring it to State of the Art. You'll never guess what we can do for your photographs until you ask us!
